Main Topics and Target Audience:

The program consists of six sub-programs:

1. EXCELLENCE Research Grant (EXCELLENCE_25):

   • Supports researchers preparing for participation in the European Research Council (ERC) grants, specifically those who have already demonstrated their potential in previous ERC applications.

2. STARTING Research Grant (STARTING_25):

   • Helps outstanding young researchers with postdoctoral experience establish independent research groups and gain experience as project leaders.

3. ADVANCED Research Grant (ADVANCED_25):

   • Supports experienced researchers leading independent research teams with significant publication activity and international recognition.

4. HIGHLIGHT Research Grant (HIGHLIGHT_25):

   • Aimed at internationally outstanding Hungarian research groups that have won significant grant funding and require additional support to maintain their excellence.

5. Hungarian-Austrian International Research Grant (ANN_25):

   • Encourages collaboration between Hungarian and Austrian research teams.

6. Hungarian-Slovenian International Research Grant (SNN_25):

   • Supports joint research initiatives between Hungarian and Slovenian research groups.

Important Dates:

• EXCELLENCE_25:

  • Applications accepted continuously until September 10, 2025.

• STARTING_25, ADVANCED_25, HIGHLIGHT_25, ANN_25, and SNN_25:

  • Submission deadline: March 31, 2025.

Funding and Project Duration:

• EXCELLENCE_25:

  • Maximum funding: HUF 160+40 million
  • Maximum duration: 24 months

• STARTING_25:

  • Maximum funding: HUF 100+25 million
  • Maximum duration: 48 months

• ADVANCED_25:

  • Maximum funding: HUF 120+30 million
  • Maximum duration: 48 months

• HIGHLIGHT_25:

  • Maximum funding: HUF 320+80 million
  • Maximum duration: 48 months

• ANN_25:

  • Maximum funding: HUF 68 million
  • Maximum duration: 48 months

• SNN_25:

  • Maximum funding: HUF 51 million
  • Maximum duration: 36 months

Application Process:

Applications must be submitted in English via the Electronic Proposal Submission System (EPR) of the National Research, Development, and Innovation Office (NKFIH). The technical details for submission are provided in the Technical Guide.
