Széchenyi István University is committed to ensuring equal opportunities, with special attention to enabling students with special needs to become full members of the university community. The accessible infrastructure and various support services allow these students to participate actively in academic life and student activities. The institution places great emphasis on providing equal opportunities for all students—whether it concerns academic progress or joining community programs.
Many domestic and international students study at the university, including a number of young people with special needs who can become part of an inclusive and open community. For example, Nigerian student Aloega Ziganubari Omeyimi highlighted how supportive the university is, especially regarding administrative matters, and how much help he receives from his mentor. As a student with mobility impairment, he greatly benefits from the accessible environment. His professors pay close attention to his needs, and with his friends—who are like family—he actively participates in university events. Similar experiences were shared by Gréta Zsobrák, a Master’s student in Marketing, who emphasized the importance of being able to move around the campus easily with her moped. She praised the inclusive community, the helpfulness of her teachers, and the valuable professional experiences she gained through opportunities like participating in academic conferences.
Each faculty at the university has equal opportunity coordinators who provide personalized support to students from enrollment through graduation. The support includes various exam-related accommodations—such as extra time or accessible exam rooms—and technical aids as well. The library is equipped with reading devices, portable induction amplifiers, guiding tracks, and warning signs to assist students. When needed, volunteer helpers are also involved to ensure that knowledge is accessible to everyone. The approach and practices of Széchenyi István University clearly demonstrate the institution’s genuine commitment to inclusion and creating a barrier-free future.
