Real Challenges, Real Solutions: The “Digital Wilderness” Project with Xantus János Zoo

Students majoring in Commerce and Marketing at Széchenyi István University are participating in a practice-oriented initiative titled Digital Wilderness as part of their Nonprofit and SME Marketing course during the spring semester. The aim of the project is to develop nonprofit marketing solutions for the Xantus János Zoo in Győr.

The project provides students with the opportunity to strengthen their strategic thinking, creativity, and collaboration skills within a real-world professional environment. The initiative has entered an intensive phase, with student teams receiving guidance and professional support from Zoltán Tóth, the zoo’s communications and marketing officer, as well as from their mentor, Dr. Nikolett Gyurián Nagy.

The project is particularly timely, as the zoo is temporarily closed due to the current viral situation. In response to this challenge, student teams are working on innovative solutions that help maintain the zoo’s visibility and engagement with the public during the closure. In addition, the students are also developing creative proposals to support the launch of new programs and visitor experiences following the reopening.

The Digital Wilderness project is closely aligned with the university’s practice-based educational philosophy and serves as a prime example of how academic work can be adapted to real-life challenges while creating value for the wider community.
