World Tourist Guide Day 2026 – Professional Study Visit in Budapest in Cooperation with the Budapest Chamber of Commerce and Industry

Students of the Tourism and Hospitality programme at the Kautz Gyula Faculty of Economics, Széchenyi István University, participated in a special professional programme in Budapest on 20 February 2026, connected to the student event of World Tourist Guide Day.

The programme was organized by Dr. Viktória Kundi within the framework of the professional cooperation with the Budapest Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI). The students’ professional preparation was carried out by Ms. Anikó Husz, whose guidance ensured the high quality of the students’ performance.

Complex, Experience-Based Professional Practice

The uniqueness of the programme lay in its complexity: students explored Budapest by bus, on foot and by boat, while also taking on active professional roles.

During the bus sightseeing tour, Dr. Viktória Kundi focused primarily on the World Heritage sites located on the Pest side of the city, placing them into a broader historical, tourism and interpretation context.

This was followed by student-led programmes:

  • Fruzsina Ecsedi presented her thematic walking tour entitled “The World of Pest Coffee Houses”, introducing the history and cultural significance of iconic coffee houses through engaging storytelling enriched with behind-the-scenes insights.
  • Noémi Barcza led a creative boat tour entitled “The Danube Tells Its Story”, personifying the river and presenting the riverside attractions through a unique narrative concept.

Project-Based Learning Recognised by the Profession

The students’ outstanding preparation and professional performance were also financially acknowledged by the Budapest Chamber of Commerce and Industry. This recognition serves as clear evidence of the success, market relevance and professional validation of project-based learning at the Kautz Faculty.

The event not only provided valuable professional experience but also reinforced the idea that tour guiding is a creative, responsible and inspiring profession in which students can already perform at a real professional level during their university studies.
