Future Zone at Széchenyi István University: Dr. Petra Aczél, Communication, New Media and Future Skills Researcher, Appointed Head of the Management Campus Competence Centre

Széchenyi István University’s Management Campus Competence Centre begins the new academic year under new leadership. From September, the Centre will be directed by Dr. Petra Aczél, a renowned scholar of communication, new media and future skills. Her responsibilities include developing a pioneering leadership training module on a national scale and advancing digital future skills.

With more than three decades of experience in higher education and leadership, and with significant national and international recognition, Dr. Aczél arrives in Győr bringing a wealth of expertise. Her career has been marked by prestigious awards such as the Bonis Bona Lifetime Achievement Award and the Knight’s Cross of the Order of Merit of Hungary, alongside numerous scientific and societal honours. She has served as a member of the National Research Excellence Council and the Hungarian National Commission for UNESCO, as well as Chair of the Media for the Family Foundation and the MTVA Montágh Committee.

“Győr is a place where change truly means movement and dynamism – that is what attracted me here. I wanted to work at an institution that preserves classical academic values while shaping the future,” said Dr. Petra Aczél.

As Head of the Management Campus Competence Centre, one of her main objectives is to design an innovative leadership training programme that fills a gap in Hungary. The programme will focus on digital leadership, the application of artificial intelligence, and technology-based decision-making.

“Our university already runs forward-looking initiatives in the field of artificial intelligence. We aim to build on these with new projects, research directions and market-oriented proposals,” she underlined. She is implementing these plans with the professional support of Dr. Tibor Dőry.

Dr. Aczél envisions the Competence Centre as a “future zone”: not to predict events, but to explore and develop the skills and attitudes that will define success in the coming decades – both for individuals and institutions.

“Understanding excellence is the key to international-level research efficiency and to the growth of the university community. Working with young people constantly inspires renewal,” she summarised her philosophy.

With this appointment, Széchenyi István University further strengthens its future-oriented, interdisciplinary approach, which seeks to combine scientific excellence with societal and economic needs.
