Achievements of the Széll Kálmán Student Association: National and International Successes

In the spring semester of the 2024/2025 academic year, the Széll Kálmán International Scientific Student Association once again gained recognition through its students’ outstanding professional achievements both in Hungary and abroad. The student association aims to educate talented students at the intersection of economics and data science, combining in-depth academic knowledge with hands-on, practical skills. Recent results clearly demonstrate that the community is not only strong in theory but also excels in solving real-world challenges.

In April 2025, the prestigious Modul Business Championship was held as an international business competition that offers university students from around the world a platform to present strategic solutions to real-world business challenges. Representing Széchenyi István University, three members of the student association — Laura Vas, Patrik Eszes, and Szabolcs Horváth — delivered an outstanding performance and secured an impressive 5th place in the competition.

During the competition, participating teams were tasked with developing comprehensive solutions to complex business problems involving strategic, financial, marketing, and management aspects. The student association members stood out with their teamwork, critical thinking, and innovative approaches, qualities that were highly praised by the jury. Their performance not only contributed to the professional growth of the team members but also enhanced the international reputation of both the student association and Széchenyi István University.

In spring 2025, the 37th National Student Research Conference (OTDK) – one of the most prestigious academic events in Hungarian higher education – provided a platform for students to present their independent research to the country’s leading experts. This year, the Széll Kálmán International Scientific Student Association delegated 13 students to the conference competing across four different disciplinary sections.

Among the most outstanding individual achievements, three students stood out in the Economics Section of the 37th OTDK. Bence Lukács was awarded 1st place in the Sustainability – ESG Division, Mónika Hamuth achieved 1st place in the Marketing Division, and Bandara Adikari Mudiyanselage Lahiru Vimukthi Senarath received the Special Prize of the Jury in the Supply Chain Management Division.

Behind the success stands a committed, multidisciplinary community whose members regularly participate in training sessions, workshops, corporate collaborations, and research projects.

With the guidance of experienced mentors and a strong professional programme, the student association empowers its members to become active contributors to shaping the future of economics and society.

Recent successes clearly reflect the core values of the student association: scientific excellence, practical relevance, and strong community commitment. It remains open to those who wish to be part of a dynamic, academically driven, and community-focused team.
